Quality Mental Health Services are Key to Superior Athletic Performance
The athletic spirit is an amazing and powerful thing. The willpower, resilience, tenacity, strength, and ability demonstrated by athletes is an inspiration to many across the globe. For us fans, professional athletes are the heroes of our time—subject to fame, fortune, and constant attention. Yet, with such reverence comes extraordinary pressure and just as any person in any career can develop a mental health struggle, athletes to come up against obstacles that test their emotional and psychological endurance.
Data shows, in fact, that 35 percent of elite athletes suffer from a mental health crisis that may manifest as stress, burnout, eating disorders, or depression and anxiety, to name a few.
Not only is there an extreme and constant pressure to perform at a high level—the demanding lifestyle of an athlete leaves very little room for balancing aspects of their everyday lives, including their relationships, ability to develop side hobbies, and maintain consistent self-care. Unfortunately, however, athletes are discouraged from displaying signs of pain and weakness—both on and off the field. Yet whereas these athletes receive world-class support for physical injuries, there are not as many resources available for emotional or psychological injuries often leading to mental health issues.
Whether you are a current or former professional or collegiate athlete, or someone in the community who needs mental health services and support bareWell is here to support you on your journey toward healing and growth. We are a national provider for The Hall of Fame Behavioral Health and remain committed to reducing the stigma behind seeking help.
