Jonathan Ramos
THERAPIST
Hello there, my name is Jonney and I am excited to work as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor at bareWell. I come from a Portuguese heritage and was born and raised in Northern California before moving to San Diego in 2018. Being a part of the mental health journey of those in my community is very meaningful to me. My approach is honest, collaborative, and I strive to work with individuals and couples to bring about their motivations for change. I work with adults who are dealing with challenges around life transitions, wounds from the past, identity, sexuality, grief, anxiety, and many other areas of focus. My hope is that by unearthing the roots of these problems, we can give them what they need to heal, and adjust how they affect your life in the present. The answers that you're seeking are already somewhere within you, and I hope to help you in bringing them out.
HEALING DEEP WOUNDS
Oftentimes, situations that arise in our current lives can feel hard to navigate, or deeply painful to experience. Developing one's self-understanding is the first step in unraveling the complex knots that make it feel like healing is impossible to start. Even if you feel like your problems are too confusing to understand, there is hope. My approach involves exploring how your mind has learned to react to adversity, and recruiting your unique strengths to find another way.
Sometimes, simply having awareness of where your difficulties stem from is not enough to achieve balance. Using evidence-based approaches, I work with clients to not only identify the roots of their trauma or beliefs, but to actively heal those deep wounds. This healing can not only provide a new perspective on your past, but help make sense of your attitudes around problems in your life today.
LEARNING & CURIOSITY
One of the things that brought me into this field was a curiosity to learn all of the different ways that people see the world. Your experience is uniquely yours. That means that what you need to heal and achieve your goals may be different from the person next to you. In my approach, I start with no assumptions about how you view the world, which leaves space for people of different cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations, and life experiences to be truly themselves. By being curious about you, we can collaborate to find the best path forward in your specific context. One of my favorite things about being a therapist is learning about the many, diverse, and powerful strengths that clients use toward their problems.
How I Help:
To have a meaningful and productive therapeutic experience, it is of the utmost importance that you feel comfortable discussing difficult topics with your therapist. I am able to work with individuals and couples from a wide range of backgrounds to create a space where no topic is off-limits. Using evidence-based approaches, we can collaborate to gain understanding on the roots of your traumas or beliefs. Working together, we can find healing for those wounds and apply that healing to your current circumstances.
More About Me:
When I'm not working with clients or learning about psychology, I enjoy writing, hanging out with friends, or reading (anything with an immersive world is my jam). I also enjoy being outside and active, whether its running, soccer, yoga, or rock-climbing. I've also been to many National Parks and am happy to give hike recommendations!
